The 5OS Project Malbec 2020

I originally started making this wine off a grower that thought they’d planted Merlot, which in fairness I was also of the opinion and expecting delivered. Sitting in the winery office looking at settled juice samples mid ferment I thought we’d either found the next Petrus Vineyard or we’d better call in an Ampelographer. The latter quickly determined it not to be Merlot and in 2001 our Malbec project unexpectedly came to life. These days it’s grown down the track a bit in the Lopresti Vineyard which seems to be an ideal site, consistently producing wines with alluring warmed fruits, wrapping a palate that is generous but not cloying, a characteristic of the variety and no doubt assisted by the lovely chalky tannins which abound and will likely stay as such for a few years yet.

About The 5OS Project

This is essentially our ‘Home Brand’. We make these wines ourselves and farm out others to mates, with the intention to create a range of wines that have heaps of drinkability but not at the expense of varietal, regional and vintage characteristics. They should also look the part, embracing the talent of the respective artists whilst encouraging them to find their own beat.

Aromatics: Alluring. Musk. Red fruited, raisin toast.
Palate: Primary red fruits. Strawberry jam.
Finish: Long, even. Generous. Chalky tannins.
Cellaring: 10-15 years
